Ok I just acquired 3-12-66 and I must say I really havn't listened to much from this early year but this has sparked my urge for Some primal Dead so any suggestions for nice recordings like the one mentioned above would be most appreciated. Thanks

I was listening to this over the weekend while driving on twisty back roads--very nice!

2/25/66 is hard to beat. I just listened to 12/1/66 and while the sound is not as good as the Ivar show it is still interesting and a bit longer.

Yea I used to have a horrible recording of this show on Tape but very cool in that it seems to be very complete. Definatly worth a new investigation.

Since no one's mentioned it yet, I find this in my notes for 11-19, including a pretty exuberant review:

1966-11-19 Fillmore

The Pigpen Show, essentially: lots of blues, including songs rarely played and organ solos. They'd been together a little under a year. Sound quality nice. Performance excellent but not awe-inspiring.

Set One
Cold Rain And Snow [3:05] ;
Hi-Heel Sneakers [4:07] ;
Pain In My Heart [2:52] ;
Beat It On Down The Line [2:24] ;
Cream Puff War [7:27] ;
Same Thing [9:59] ;
He Was A Friend Of Mine [4:32]
Dancin' In The Street [5:59# - missing]

Set Two
Smokestack Lightnin' [8:41] >
King Bee [5:23] ;
Midnight Hour [18:09]

This was it man, I mean, really it! The freaks were just about beginning to happen, and it was here! You're hearing it. This was one of the nights when the Fillmore was just beginning to be the Fillmore -- Bill Graham's Fillmore anyway; just a bunch of kids and odd intellectuals and wierd post-beatnik types tripping and the lights flashing and Bear is probably still on the boards, and his chemicals have altered the room. You can hear it here; I hear it now in the groove of "The Same Thing" -- in Jerry's crystalline, yet reverbing guitar, in the whine of Pig's organ, in the feedback, in the incessance of Billy and Phil, and Bobby melts into it all into the rave-ups. Wow, this is so groovy. It is embryonic but inspiring Dead at the groovy garagey incipience of the San Francisco scene. The Summer of Love is months and months away, and by then the Dead are moving on. This night captures all of this vibe so well. So much is good: "Cream Puff War," "He Was a Friend," "The Same Thing," almost everything; rare cuts too; Primal Pigpen. How can this not be a 5. It's historical and brilliant in its own way. It's not fair to rate it otherwise. And the sound is damn good too -- quite amazing for such a deep archival moment.

Deadlists.com contains a long discussion of how individual cuts from this night ended up mislabled and distributed on various other tapes.

I was on http://bt.etree.org/ last night and noticed several seeds with (-: *GD66-67* :-) in the show name. CLIFF or WilliamTell would probably be able to point you to good shows. The Taping Compendium says 7/16, 7/17, 11/19, and 12/01 are the shows to get from 1966. They call out 3/18, 10/22, 11/11 from 1967. They are seeded here:

7.16.66 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507611
7.17.66 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507659
11.19.66 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507731
11.19.66 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507771
12.01.66 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507754
12.01.66 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507784
12.01.66 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507802
3.18.67 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507902
3.18.67 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507892
10.22.67 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=508190
11.11.67 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=508195

And our very own Arbuthnot has this classic seeded...even if it is just a tad outside Neolithic Dead:
2.14.68 http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=508006

Looks like I have some shows to download this week.
